My name is Juli Bauer and I’m a CrossFitter and food blogger in Denver, CO. I’ve been CrossFitting for over two years and cooking paleo for over a year now. I love food. Like, I really REALLY love food. And I love to talk about food. So I started my blog (PaleOMG.com ), to make my friend’s lives easier with simple paleo recipes.I am also writing my first cookbook that will be filled with more of my stories and even more recipes that aren’t found on my blog. Q: How did you get involved in cooking to begin with? Was it something you learned to love early on or did you come to it later?

I didn’t get involved with cooking until I started CrossFit around 2 years ago. I was a TV dinner eater or PB&J maker. Once CrossFit taught me the importance of healthy eating, I began to frequent paleo recipe blogs and teaching myself how to cook.


Q: Why is eating grass-fed meat and sustainably-caught fish different? How does it affect your cooking?

It’s different because you know exactly where your food is coming from, how the animals are being treated, and how the food is going to affect your body. And when it comes to cooking, it just tastes different. You can taste the quality in the meats and it makes the dish was taste even better.


Q: Is it just about health? Or is there more to it than that?

It’s about doing what’s right, not only for yourself, but for the animals.


Q: How did you learn about grass-fed meat?

I learned about grass fed meat through CrossFit gyms. The more I looked at different gyms and talked to CrossFitters, the more I came to find out why grass fed was the better option.


Q: Why is it so important to have the right ingredients?

The right ingredients lead to better tasting meals. And if you have better tasting meals, it’s easier for you to enjoy your food, stick with eating healthy, and teach your friends and family how good healthy food can taste.


Q: What are the most important keys to success for the home chef?

Don’t be scared of trying different foods. You’ll never know what you’re missing out on if you never try it. Buy what’s in season and figure out new ways to incorporate it into your meals.


Q: What are your best tips for home cooking?

Utilize spices. That brings a "pop" to your food and makes your taste buds excited for more!


Q: What is your favorite recipe using grass-fed meat?

My Savory Sweet Potato Meatloaf. I freaking love it. And it’s awesome for leftovers!
